My boss brought me back this delicious Cab Franc from a winery in Ontario. I’d love to try more from this region! I have paired it with a soft creamy Colby cheese from Wisconsin. Both go very well together. 🍷🧀 — 7 years ago

Very enjoyable Wednesday Wine Committee lunch today with @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt hosting. Same format as always...1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine all tasted blind.

This producer was new to me. Loved it! The nose has such dark fruit wrapped in smoked/chargrilled meats. Not overly savory and zero funk, but just a killer mesh of sweet and savory. Tobacco, graphite, cassis up front with a finish of blackberry pie, leather, and herbs de Provence. This could be a wonderful wine in 7-10yrs. I called this left bank 2012 vintage.

Out of the four reds, this changed the most in the glass. Very floral and pretty. Sweetness tobacco, black cherries, and an herbal finish. Potpourri too. I called this right bank post 2010 vintage. Youthful for sure.

Big money spent on this properties winemaking facilities just before 2016. I would imagine even better wines are ahead for this producer.

This had a sense of familiarity to it. It reminds me of a lighter version of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve. Similar notes of baked key lime pie and toasted oak on the nose, but the palate showed less honey/nougat. Maybe more limestone. Very solid. I called it NV French champagne.

Monthly wine group met up and had an Italian wine night at one of the local Italian BYOB spots. Really fantastic Italian wines were brought, as well as some random bottles that were outside the theme (but worthy of opening regardless of theme).

Awesome Barolo brought by
@Colby Siratt . This didn’t get the benefit of a long decant like the others, but it still tasted great. Bouquet on this was gorgeous...raspberries, roses, espresso. Bing cherry, leather and herbs round out the palate. This will improve over the next few years.

Monthly WTF wine group meet up. Theme was “bring something good”. All wines (minus the bubbles and SB) were tasted blind.

This one was tough. In my experience, I normally pick up more white pepper aromatics. My guess was Albariño due to the floral, yet slightly sweet, structure of the wine. Herbal front half, sweeter back half. However, we were told that “canned green beans” can be a giveaway for GV. Kudos to Jeff who guessed varietal and house! Thanks,
@Colby Siratt .

Lovely aromatics here. Mix of red and black fruit. Tar, pipe tobacco, graphite and black cherry cola. This picked up steam the longer it was open. I’d hold these. I called this left bank 2012 vintage.

When compared to the other two whites, this had more obvious oak. Very light notes of sweet lemon cream, brioche, and sea salt. My favorite of the flight. I called this burgundy between mersault or chassagne-Montrachet.

I picked up a lot of petrol on the nose here at first. Surprised this was Chablis. Wasn’t overly steely. Low acidity. Lots of compact tropical fruits that are all slightly tart. I called this Alsatian and couldn’t decide between Riesling or pinot Gris.

Monthly WTF guys blind tasting group. This month was our annual, and famed, Left Bank vs Right Bank theme. All wines served blind as usual. Started off with a Rosé and a champagne. Great night.

Another very good wine. Super soft. Tastes more modern in style. Ripe. Mixed berry pie, chocolate covered cherry cordials and pipe tobacco notes. Balances fruit and savory notes. With an extended decant, this is very enjoyable now, but will get better. I called this ‘14 Left Bank. Thanks

Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.

One of the best CdPs I’ve had to date. Impeccably balanced, with everything in total harmony. Lots of spicy red fruits up front like rhubarb, with fleshy black cherry skin, fig, currant, savory meats and tobacco leaves. So much energetic and lively acidity on the palate with tangy and sappy fruits, tar, more black cherries, and cracked black pepper. So good! Thanks

Always such a big fan of these. It’s light and nimble while remaining viscous and powerful. Honeyed orange blossom, roasted and caramelized cashews and lemon oil. Acidity down the middle of the palate accompanies honeysuckle and graham cracker. I called this mid-‘00s Sauternes.
