Complex and chewy — 5 years ago
If you’ve never had a wine from Cairanne, you’re missing out on one of the wine world’s greatest values. Having just achieved AOC status in 2016, these wines from the Southern Rhône are really delicious.
This particular wine is from Denis Alary who owns one of the best domaines in the region and was instrumental in the region’s rise to AOC status. The wines are typically concentrated and full-bodied GSM blends with notes of ripe black fruit and spice. Not overly complex but well balanced and well made. I think of them as something between a Gigondas and an aged Lirac. They can be drunk young as the tannins are usually ripe and smooth. Really fun wines to drink and very budget-friendly. 2015 vintage on Aug 8, 2018. — 7 years ago

Grenache blend with Syrah and Carignan. Dark and brambly, lush, lavender, baking spice and black pepper, stewed prunes, mineral tannins. 45-yr-old, organically farmed vines. NY Times 20 under $20, Feb. 2020. From Flatiron Wines. — 5 years ago
Since I tried the 2018 vintage this has been a very consistent wine. However I think the 2020 complexity and depth of flavour is exceptional value for money — 2 years ago

The description:
A deep ruby-red hue with deep-purple highlights. A distinct touch of blackcurrant fills a rich and explosive nose. A soft palate showing sweetness. A touch of moka, chocolate, adds to the complexity. Well structured tannins enhance the body. Very well-balanced. For drinking now or can hold for 2 to 6.
The opinion:
I would add there is a liquorice note. This is a big wine and needs a big flavoured food dish with it. — 8 months ago
