Well well well, it's the famous 1990 Beausejour Duffau. Perfect wine? Not a chance but still pretty stacked. Very full and fleshy with a structure that's still rough and rugged; combined with an intense gravelly personality this had me figuring it was a Left Banker. Long life ahead for sure. — 9 years ago
One of the best values in alcoholic beverages. Better than cognacs four-five time its price. Easily stands up to Cohibas. — 11 years ago
Out of 375ml a brooding monster of a wine dense and alcoholic some overripe notes on the nose prune and dried plums . Four square a little soil signature. Lots of power coats the taste buds not refined in the least but the shear density and material is impressive . Reminds me of the 1990 beausejour Duffau the way it’s built . Going to have it with a steak and give it more air maybe some magic will happen ! — 2 years ago

The 2009 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse has been eulogized elsewhere, but returning to this vintage after four years, it's a very good Saint-Émilion rather than a great one. It has a typically ripe and exotic bouquet with a heavy carapace of new oak that doesn't feel completely welded to the fruit. Certainly, there is immense concentration, which will appeal if that's your metric. The palate is intense and structured with layered black fruit, high-toned but lacking complexity. It has a hedonistic allure, and there is a fine grip, notwithstanding that it develops more nuance in the glass. Maybe give it another four to five years? Tasted at the Lia's Wings/book dinner at Medlar restaurant. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)
