Herenza Rioja Reserva Red Blend 2014

Elvi Wines Herenza Rioja Reserva 2014, Spain

#kosherWineSunday

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Earthy nose with fresh cherries, raspberries, light wood, spices, herbs, earth, light vegetables, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, black tea and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, currants, light wood, spices, coffee, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and dark chocolates.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 12 year old Rioja Reserva is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and engaging.

I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is drinking better now.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

Kosher and not Mevushal.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Clos Mesorah Montsant Cariñena Blend 2015

This is a tasty red blend from Spain. Showing blue and black fruits with wood, licorice, earth, tobacco, coffee, dark chocolates, peppercorn, spices, vegetables, black tea and pencil lead.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity.

Very dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel and nice complexity.

Still young and needs 3 to 5 years of bottle time to mature properly. I had this vintage less than a year ago, and it is already drinking better.

A blend of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache. Kosher for passover.

15% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Makor Utiel - Requena Red Blend

On the nose, this Kosher red blend (85% Bobal, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon) is earthy and mushroomy with hints of dark plum, dark cherries, and smoke. Old world in style, the wine still shows vitality and I would think it has some 4 years of life left. Medium-bodied, plenty of acid, gripping tannin (but not astringent) in the forward-sides and front of the tongue. — 10 years ago
