Vinica Mavrud 2019

Bulgarian wine amarone style. Dark purple (though dark out) dark fruit with hint of plum prune and cinnamon. Same on mouth with tannins that need some time. Long. Very good. May be my first Bulgarian wine. Definitely first with grape drying. — 2 months ago

Sur Gallipoli Penninsula Single Vineyard Bozokbag Red Blend 2010

We really enjoyed this one. Eleven years after the vintage, and we paired it with our Easter dinner which was really a varied feast of steaks, ham, veggies, and roast potatoes. Red and dark fruit here with a flintiness present. Nice depth here. A beautiful pairing with our marbled steak. Great memories trying these wines for the first time at the Vancouver International Wine Festival a few years back. — 3 years ago

Bio Thracian Valley Mavrud-Rubin Blend 2016

Striking label. Whimsical. Good color. Blood red and purple tinged. Aroma is unique. Water on dry sandstone, anise biscotti and cherry syrup. Maybe a rose petal or hip too. Flavors are fresh and rustic. Like an all-wood house in the country. Near the forest but on the edge. Easy and juicy. This change of pace red is a great wine to talk about and try with the wino nerds. I drank it solo, but I’ll try to get some more. — 2 years ago
