La Foulee Vin de France Syrah Grenache

Natural wine from France. Barnyard notes on the nose but taste is super fruit forward. Jammy blackberry and bourbon vanilla fruity notes. Very light and paired well with dinner of fish and pasta. Light astringency and medium bodied. Really liked this one, not your typical Syrah. — 2 years ago

Château Pajzos

Aszú 5 Puttonyos Tokaji 2006

During harvest, it can take up to 30 passages in the vineyards to pick these at the perfect time, as Château Pajzos only selects fully botrytized -not just passerillé- grapes. So when you think of noble rot wines, this is what you want. And man… 2006 delivered!!! This beautiful bottle is just a complex beast of honey, ginger, candied apricot, and caramel. Soft and light yet sexy and punchy. Man, this is nectar for the gods. — 7 years ago

Bodegas Valsardo

Valdeyuso 2001

A spectacular wine, bursting from the glass and fully clearing out my slightly blocked nasal passages this weekend with gorgeous aromas of black fruit - deep but oh-so-fresh - along with kirsch liqueur, cranberry, a hint of mint and cedar. Truth be told, it has a character reminiscent of the Médoc, and I later read it has a small amount of Cabernet in the blend.

The palate is a show-stopper, sporting an array of very ripe but fresh blackcurrant, freshly squeezed cherries, and blueberry. It’s robust, but very harmonious with an abundance of acidity and tannin. It has an almost Port-like density, but it works. Sublime stuff. Why, oh why, did I only buy two bottles of this? It was £6 in bond, released by the winery last year under peculiar circumstances that I can’t remember. I should’ve bought a truck-load.

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

DL
9.5

Smells musty and subtly fruity aka not sweet, not super alcoholic or floral smelling. Full bodied, complex, high tannins, round at tip and slightly sharp at the middle (rushes to the nasal passages), but overall very smooth. I like it. — 7 years ago

Felton Road

Bannockburn Riesling 2015

The aroma gives away the wine's origin, at least for me, with petrol and rubbery hints tickling the nasal passages. Lemon, lime, pineapple, honey, crushed stone, and rose petals ensue. The taste is like a sweeter-styled Spatlese. It leads with notes of honeyed citrus and cream, finishing with bruised apples, burnt sugar, and nuanced minerality. The flavours linger for a while, but is ultimately dominated by cloying sweetness. That is not to say that acidity was lacking, because the finish definitely sparkled with the cut of steely acidity on the tongue, but the sugar still persisted over this. The 15' Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling certainly looks well-made, but leaves me looking for some relief after a few glasses. Food wine for me. — 5 years ago

California Pinot Noir 2014

Nice Pinot Noir after decant for a day. Vintage 2014. For the price, it is a very tasty wine with a steak or pasta!
