Suspiro Del Moro Silvaspoons Vineyard Alvarelhão

Another paradoxical wine: such broad and deep flavors but a concise little package. Great stuff, gamey red fruit with poise and verve.

Light to medium purplish ruby red. A touch of dirty cellar to start with bramble berries, strawberries, and dried meats. Day two and three added some purple floral notes and roses. Medium tannins (6/10) and light to medium bodied. Layered palate with cherry cola on the attack with some herbs, spices, red cherries, strawberries, sage, and a touch savory. Very dry and long finish. Nicely balanced throughout. Drink till 2024.

Loads of pretty, ripe fruit with that nice balance of confected/savory that whole cluster wines can bring to the table.

Suspiro Del Moro alvarelhao from Alta Mesa, the definition of a rare creature.

The nose. By God the nose is heavenly. Floral, perfumey, candied red berries and red plums and sweet spices to this, cinnamon and nutmeg and a touch of pyrazines. On first sniff the nose reminds me of some California pinots I've had, but the palate doesn't match up totally. It's thin but structured, acidic but with tannin. It's a really interesting take on a Portuguese varietal that I'm glad to have found.

Juicy, fun and terrific at the table. Lots of bramble fruit and licorice.

This wine is silky smooth. It's like sleeping in silk pajamas, on silk sheets, while Scarlet Johansson reads you passages from Anna Karenina.
