Recovering from a horrendous cold that I’m pretty sure I got from walking the streets of Paris last week, I decided to venture out for a “treat yourself” Monday night dinner back in Chicago.
You know that song lyric that goes, “whatever Lola wants, Lola gets”? Well, not in my case. I did want a French wine solely based on nostalgia, but settled on an Italian in a French restaurant.
With one nostril passage opened, I was able to get a very overpowering bouquet of tar (which by the way has been on my bucket list of aromatics to smell- so happy I can cross that off), earth floor, mushrooms, cedar and a bit of menthol.
Tannins are very much soft and nonexistent in this bottle- full bodied with high acidity. Medium garnet color, which was surprising based on the age. I didn’t find this as complex as some Barolos I’ve had in the past, but still found it very enjoyable. On the palate, a very surprising sweet ripeness of red plum that doesn’t linger long on the tongue. Overall- not bad for a Monday. — 6 years ago
Not sophisticated wine drinker, but prefer Pinot noir's, and really like the Lyric over much more expensive wines I have in wine locker at club, but will add this for me! — 7 years ago
Gravel raspberry and ripe cherry juice. Medium high acid and medium light body some twiggy herb on the finish but overall clean and refreshing while complex and interesting. North fork Long Island grown, Italian variety, the last vintage from there! I read they moved their business to Texas, so wines will start coming from there at some point. Lots of cool song/lyric/literary nods in the names for their wines and if this is any indication, some really cool stuff they make. — 5 years ago
Really fruity. Sweet but still fresh. Like it very much! — 6 years ago
If you weren't a Rush fan or born much later, this one takes it's name from the Rush song "Limelight" and lyric,"Living in the Limelight." It's a blend of; 90% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet & 5% Merlot. Soft ripe fruits of; blueberries, dark cherries, blackberries, strawberries, plum, baking spices, loamy soils and fragrant purple foral bouquet. Body is M and the tannins are M-M+ but seriously velvety. Lean ripe fruits of; blueberries, dark cherries, blackberries, strawberries & plum. Baking spices, loamy soils and fragrant purple foral bouquet. Great acidity and elegantly, lean polished, floral finish. — 7 years ago
Hope to find it again! — 5 years ago
Delectable this was the Pinot Noir. Having a nice pre performance meal prior to the “Book of Mormon “ at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre - Lyric Theatre - which was hilarious I thought. The wine was young, my first 2018 Red - fresh and simple. Some foresty and red fruit aromas. Good intensity for the price. — 5 years ago
Very good to drink at lunch yesterday. Round, soft and elegant with very good depth. Had 2 bottles at the Lyric in Genève CH. very well priced. — 7 years ago
'During a dance routine based on the in-flight safety demo, she bangs her head on the table and knocks herself out cold' - crossed-out lyric scribbled in the margin of Alanis Mortisette's notebook. — 8 years ago
