Cellared since original release by wine benefactor. Lore has it Pacific Wine Company used to buy from G-D direct and bottle under their own label. Be on the lookout. Fantastic aromatics, a touch of Brett with some air, and gorgeous elegance, finesse. — 6 years ago
A new tasting experience on several levels. Had never heard of or tasted this grape varietal, Schioppettino. I was looking for a lighter red off the menu at Settimo, Guy Grossi’s new Brisbane venture. Chosen purely because of its location in Friuli ie. cooler climate. The Somm was in the dark but the wine ended up being a revelation. Red cherry and cranberry - intense white pepper on nose and palate. Dried red florals. Love this style. Will be on the lookout for this Cuvée in the future. — a year ago
Ah, quarantine you are so much better with wine. Found this gem because I am always on the lookout for a good Garnacha — 5 years ago
Nose has freshly mowed field, spring rain, light salinity, grapefruit peel and white florals.
Palate has refreshing tart (medium) lemon/grapefruit blend, wet grassy notes and great Kimmeridgian core.
Great QPR, Quincy is a wonderful alternative to Sancerre, and well worth a market search. A lightly imported AOC, but also be on the lookout for Menetou-Salon and Reuilly, which neighbor Quincy to the East and West, respectively. — 6 years ago
The 2020 Beychevelle was perplexing from barrel. Re-tasting it three or four times, I discerned a faint but nagging vegetal note on the finish, though it was not evident on a bottle subsequently tasted at the property, which governed my banded score. Returning to Bordeaux to taste the wines that had been bottled in June 2022, I certainly appreciate the bouquet that is clean and pure with blackberry, bilberry, cedar and background sous-bois aromas. The oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and well-judged acidity. Quite intense black fruit laced with graphite, perhaps a tad more peppery than usual. On the first bottle encountered at a merchant, I picked up on the green note that sent alarm bells ringing. A second bottle at the château unequivocally showed no signs at all, very sleek and poised with a residual tingle of black pepper. Based on this sample, I am cautiously optimistic about this Beychevelle, though I will always keep a lookout for that trait. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023) — 2 years ago
I am always on the lookout for a good Priorat. Menat is one. Lots of blackberry and minerality. Hint of iron. Notwithstanding the bold flavors, the wine is a little dry on the tongue. The finish is a bit sour, but not enough to spoil a well made effort. — 5 years ago
Was wondering if my tastes moved away from this in the last 18 months, but I’m impressed once again with my last bottle of this 2016. I may be repeating myself, but this brings out much of the greatness of CA Cab Sauv (dark fruit, spice, graphite, cedar, incense) without the ponderous new oak attack and flabby extraction. High acid CS, great with food, absolutely ridiculous at $20. Will be on the lookout for more. Enjoyed with homemade burgers and fries. — 5 years ago
