RdT Ardèche Syrah Blend

27 Dec dinner at Violet Oon w M, Katja, George, Adelia, Emelia, Cory, Summer, Quinn. Textured, rich, fruity.

This is eccentric, idiosyncratic Anders at its finest,. This is a blend of Syrah and Grenache Blanc alongside 6 varieties of red and white grapes usually intended for eating (Muscat Noir, Muscat Blanc, Chasselas, Italia, Ribol and Cardinal) Sour cherry fruit, floral, and GULPABLE.

Rouge 2019 from Ardéche.

Raisins de Table (Muscat blanc, Muscat Noir, Chasselas, Italia, Ribol Noir and Cardinal), Syrah & Grenache Blanc. 13,5% alc. The destemmed Raisins de Table and Grenache Blanc have been macerated in the pressurage direct juice of Syrah, for 6 weeks. After maceration the grapes were pressed for 3 days in our little vertical pressoir. The following fermentation took place in barriques for almost 11 months without soutirage. All fermentation has been on the yeast (sur lie). Bottled the 22nd of August 2020. Light red wine with a very solid expression. Many things are going on, on an aromatic level. Both Muscat and Grenache Blanc are very easily recognized.

Should We Just Rely On Luck? Rosé

Happy Mother’s Day! Should we just rely on luck? Like a true mother, this is funky and deep, with an underlying sweetness. Strawberry preserves, rhubarb and kombucha. Lightly sparkling, which tends to be the case when you’re low on sleep and catering to others. — 6 months ago

Citrusdal Mountain Chenin Blanc 2019

Cheers to old-vine Chenin Blanc from South Africa! 🇿🇦 In South Africa, Chenin Blanc also goes by the name “Steen.”

It’s such a versatile grape and wine, capable of producing beautiful sweet, dry, still, and sparkling wines.

This wine is still and dry. We’ve paired it with sushi and it’s a delightful duet.

The grapes for this wine were grown organically in the Citrusdal Mountain district, north of Cape Town, west of the Olifants River, on the Western Cape. The bush vines were originally planted in 1957 (old!!), contributing to an intensity and a concentration of primary aromas and flavors in the grapes.

Indeed, the nose and palate offer medium(+) aromas and flavors of ripe pear, yellow apple, white peach, vegetal, boxwood, white blossom, crushed stone, and aged cheese rind notes. Lively acidity gives it lift and balances the high alcohol and intensity of fruit.

This wine was produced by Ginny Povall, American-born proprietor and self-taught winemaker of Botanica Wines. I love the botanical images on her labels, each an homage to the flower farm on which she began her wine production journey in South Africa.

Patatsfontein Chenin Blanc 2020

Medium lemon yellow . Touch smoky and honied on the nose , lemon tart , baked apple , ripe pear , and a steely element . Quite rich on the palate but with vibrant acidity and good backbone . Quite intense and with good length , well balanced alcohol . Lemon , pear , baked apple , honeysuckle with a creamy texture but saline , chalky finish . I would imagine that this can age quite well , another 5-10 years perhaps . — 7 months ago
