Featured User: Sharon B.

Sharon B . is here to introduce herself as this week's Featured User! I was born into a military family, which gave me the opportunity to travel and live in places where most people have not. I have lived in Ethiopia, Iceland twice, Japan and Scotland. I spent 4 years in the Navy and met my husband (of 33 years) in Adak, Alaska, where we were stationed. He spent half of his 20 year career on one ship and three submarines. We have settled in the beautiful state of Florida and have lived here for the past 22 years. Our children are grown and out of the house which leaves us lots of time to spend with each other and our 16 year old rescue Chihuahua. I also have one beautiful little granddaughter who is five months old. After the military, my career turned towards law enforcement. I am currently working at my second law enforcement agency and have been an executive secretary for over 22 years supporting what these hard working, tough men and women do! I enjoy traveling, cooking, reading and drinking delicious wines! I hope to travel back to France to visit the wine region, which is on my bucket list! Delectable: What sparked your passion for wine? Sharon B.: My brother was a big influence and introduced me to the dry red wines several years ago and I have been hooked ever since. I love trying new wines and am always looking for something that I have not tried, but I do have my regulars that I enjoy in between. D: What wine region are you wild about right now? SB: My favorite wine region has been where the primitivo grape is grown in Italy, Puglia. But I have a new favorite region in Italy where the Nero d’Avola grape is grown, Sicily . I am really enjoying learning about the grapes in this region. D: What is the most unusual wine you’ve ever tried? SB: The most unusual wine that I have ever tried was a Syrah from the Pundit Columbia Valley region. It was as if I was eating grass right out of my front yard! It smelled like grass and tasted like grass. I would much rather have a wine bursting with fruit flavors! D: What is your golden rule for wine? SB: If you don’t like it, don’t drink it. Wine is to be enjoyed not forced upon. D: Say you’re not allowed to have wine, what is your second option? SB: I would be so devastated if I couldn’t have wine, but if I couldn’t have wine I think I would go for Tequila . I do love a good margarita. D: Choose a movie, book, quote, or song and pair it with a wine. SB: I would pair a good Cabernet Franc with the movie “Book Club”. That’s all they did during the movie was drink wine! I think a Cab Franc is a fun wine to drink and one of my favorites. D: If you were a wine, what wine would you be? SB: I would be the wine that you always go to when you’re not sure what else to have. A reliable, full bodied, bursting with flavor wine. I actually have a Chianti Sangiovese that I like to have in between all those new wines that I’m trying! That’s the wine that I would be.

TintoNegro

Uco Valley Cabernet Franc 2014

Taco Tuesday! 🌮 this Cab Franc is very earthy on the nose, very tannic. It’s a very dark wine, as noted in the name (Tinto Negro). Not like most Cab Francs I like maybe because this one is from Argentina. — 6 years ago

Accademia dei Racemi

Sinfarosa Primitivo di Manduria Zinfandel 2015

I love Zinfandel from Italy which is also a Primitivo, if I am correct. I’ve always liked Primitivo vs Zinfandel even though they are twin grapes but was never a Zinfandel fan. One is grown in Italy one in California. If I am wrong please correct me. This wine is bursting with fruit flavor. Very smooth. Paired with brisket from the smoker. Nice way to end this rainy day. — 6 years ago

I could never figure out why I liked Primitivo and not Zinfandel if they are the same. I guess it does make a difference where the grape is grown!

Cantine de Falco

Salento Primitivo 2016

Wow I bought this at a liquidation sale at a coffee & wine place. It’s fantastic! Wish I had bought more. Fruity on the nose, full bodied, lots of cherry and a nice smooth finish. — 6 years ago

Lodi Cabernet Franc 2016

5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣🎊🍷 celebrating my 500th wine on Delectable!! I chose a Cab Franc because it’s my favorite. This is full of flavor but a little acidic. It has long lasting cherry flavor. Will pair with pork chops smothered in British brown gravy with mushrooms and asparagus, seasoned butternut squash, salad and bread. Cheers! — 6 years ago

Columbia Winery

Columbia Valley Red Blend 2016

After a beautiful day at the beach it’s nice to have a really good wine to finish off the day. Dark purple in color with tastes of blackberry and smoke. A little bit acidic but goes down very nice. — 6 years ago

Sensi

Collezione Terre Siciliane Nero d'Avola 2015

This is a beautiful wine! Evidently the Nero D’avola grape is the most important grape in Sicily. Why have I never tried this before? It’s a full bodied wine with a wonderful lingering taste of plum. Will definitely be drinking more of this in the future. Paired this wine with a fresh veggie/shrimp pasta plate. The Wine Cellar - Boynton Beach, FL — 6 years ago
