What Is Your Astrological Wine?

Let the stars decide your next bottle of wine. The twelve zodiac signs have their good qualities and their more negative attributes. Whether you identify with your zodiac sign completely or you are on the cusp and believe you have qualities of multiple signs, you will find a wine paired perfectly with the stars above. Buy a bottle of the wine matching your sign and sip on a glass while reading your horoscope for the day. Whether you are Earth, Water, Fire or Air, enjoy the wine that matches the best and worst qualities of your sign. Cheers! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Aries (March 21 – April 19) First up in the Zodiac is Aries. This fire sign is bold and ambitious. Extremely fitting since they are a fire sign, Aries are known for being hot-headed and stubborn. Aries are confident and get right to the point with no filler or fluff. A bold and confident, yet stubborn sign? We’re thinking a Malbec is perfect for an Aries, such as a Bodega Weinert Malbec Mendoza . Taurus (April 20 – May 20) This earth sign is represented by a bull and ruled by Venus. They are a calming presence and appear to live a relaxed way; however, if they set their mind on something, they are workaholics who will get the job done. This resilient sign deserves a resilient wine. We recommend a glass Burgundy. Maybe the Domaine Duroché Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru . Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Geminis, the air sign with a not-so-great reputation amongst the other members of the zodiac. This sign is represented by the celestial twins which matches their stereotypical character trait: being two-faced. While Geminis tend to lack emotional maturity, they are a passionate sign, playful and love to socialize. For our Geminis out there, we recommend a refreshing and multilayered Riesling. Maybe go for a Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Monzinger Halenberg Grosses Gewächs . Cancer (June 21 – July 22) The crab of the zodiac, Cancers are fiercely loyal and empathetic. They have a strong intuition that lets them read the room easily. Cancers enjoy creating safe spaces and their own personal sanctuaries. With a hard exterior, Cancers can be quite moody and straddle the line between nurturing and controlling. These crabs should wrap their claws around a Rioja. You could try a Bodegas Faustino Faustino VII Viura . Leo (July 23 – August 22) Stand back everyone, the lion is making its way down the red carpet. If you know a Leo, you know they love the spotlight and love the fact that they are Leos. While they love to talk about themselves, they are natural leaders, entertainers, and dedicated friends. Leos should potentially strut down the red carpet with a class of Rauzan-Ségla because of course they would be a Bordeaux. Virgo (August 23 – September 22) Logic, logic, logic. This earth sign is a problem-solver and truly a perfectionist. Because of their logical minds they tend to appear cold and emotionally distant. Virgos are strong, reliable and enjoy leading and helping others complete tasks. While they are determined to do everything right, they tend to overanalyze and overcriticize themselves and others. To all our Virgos out there, before you overanalyze this paragraph, grab a glass of Pinot Noir. Maybe a Arnot-Roberts Pinot Noir Peter Martin Ray Vineyard . Libra (September 23 – October 22) With their symbol being the scale, it is only natural that Libras focus on harmony and balance. Libras are largely attracted to beautiful aesthetics and surround themselves with art, objects, and people that match their taste. Relationships are important to Libras, and while they try to keep the balance, it can be said that they try a little too hard and can appear fake in trying to be a people-pleaser. Since they thrive on camaraderie, what could be better than a balanced and beautiful glass of Champagne. You could grab the Cédric Bouchard-Roses de Jeanne Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée . Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) This water sign is one of the most well-known of the Zodiac and is known for its passion and power. Similar to the other water signs, Scorpios are quite intuitive. While intellectual and resourceful, they can often become jealous and self-destructive. Scorpios are loyal and often see things in black and white with little room to observe the gray. Scorpios should definitely grab a bottle of Syrah. Maybe a Sandlands Syrah . Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) We’re rounding out the fire signs of the Zodiac with Sagittarius. Those with this sign are always ready for an adventure. With tons of energy, these signs cannot be kept still. They have to keep everything moving whether jumping from place to place, job to job, or relationship to relationship. They have a great sense of humor and keep those around them laughing. If you're a Sagittarius, you should put a Moscato in your travel cup. Give the Romano Dogliotti/La Caudrina Moscato d'Asti a try. Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) The final earth sign of the zodiac is centered around structure. Similar to Virgos, Capricorns are hard-working perfectionists. Capricorns have great self-control and are very focused people who center their focus on things such as careers or relationships. Responsible and disciplined, Capricorns can come off as know-it-alls and can be condescending at times. This structured sign deserves a structured wine, so grab a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Potentially a Dominus Napanook . Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) While this sounds like it should be a water sign, this air sign is the humanitarian sign and produces revolutionary thinkers aspiring change. They are independent and often possess a nonconformist attitude. While their company is never boring, Aquarians can often appear distant or detached from those around them. We recommend a Sauvignon Blanc for our Aquarians. You could try a glass of: Excelsior Sauvignon Blanc Excelsior . Pisces (February 19 – March 20) We are finishing up the zodiac with the sensitive fish that is Pisces. Because it is the final sign of the zodiac, it is said that Pisces have absorbed the lessons learned by all of the previous signs. Pisces are empathetic and compassionate, and they often bounce back and forth between fantasy and reality. These signs are always willing to help others; however, they can sometimes play the role of a martyr and cling to willful ignorance. Whether you’re facing reality or living in a fantasy, all of you Pisces should sip on a glass of Rosé. You could grab a bottle of Baileyana Rosé of Pinot Noir .

Napanook Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2014 Napanook is, once again, a very serious wine. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2014 possesses remarkable intensity packed into its mid-weight frame. Smoke, scorched earth, tobacco, graphite, savory herbs and menthol add to an impression of gravitas. The 2014 doesn't quite have the depth or power of the 2013, but it leans in that direction. I would give it a few years in bottle to settle down. This is an impressive showing. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2016) — 6 years ago

Château Rauzan-Ségla

Margaux Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2012 Rauzan-Ségla has a similar colour to the 2015 although it has a hard time competing with the delineation, the crystalline nature of the 2015. Yet it compensates with the sheer aromatic flamboyance. This has really opened up in the last 18 months or so, quite lush and precocious black fruit, loam and iris, just a slight hint of bell pepper emanating from the small amount of Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. There is a lovely seam of acidity here that lends the 2012 a sense of focus. It is not a deep or lavish Rauzan-Ségla, in some ways a little more conservative than I recall. There is fine grip on the saline finish, perhaps a Margaux that is just beginning to close up for a while? This still has great potential. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château. Roses de Jeanne La Bolorée Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne 2014

Delectable Wine
9.8

As it often is, the Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée (Pinot Blanc) is the most complete of these Champagnes, and that is saying a lot this year. Quite simply, the 2014 Bolorée is an utterly mesmerizing Champagne. A kaleidoscope of aromas, flavors and textures takes over the senses. Extravagant in its beauty, the Bolorée will thrill readers lucky enough to find it. In tasting, the Bolorée offers a level of richness that recalls Pinot, but with the brightness and focus of Pinot Blanc. Non-dosé. Disgorged: April 2018. Rosé of Pinot Noir 2017

Delectable Wine
9.0

(all stainless steel) Pale brilliant pink. Lively strawberry and blood orange scents, along with hints of pungent flowers and fennel. Dry and focused on the palate, displaying energetic red berry, tangerine and floral qualities that deepen slowly on the back half. Finishes taut and long, displaying lingering stoniness and a touch of bitter orange pith. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2019) — 6 years ago

Sandlands

Amador County Syrah 2017

Delectable Wine
9.2

One of the highlights in this range, the 2017 Syrah is positively stellar. Black pepper, sage, lavender, blackberry and menthol give the wine layers of nuance, with an extra kick of aromatic intensity from the 100% whole clusters. Dense and yet also light on its feet, the 2017 has so much to offer. Once again, Tegan Passalacqua has crafted a decidedly old-school Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah. Bodegas Faustino

Faustino VII Rioja Tempranillo 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

Pale chartreuse color. Vibrant citrus and orchard fruit scents are complemented by suggestions of jasmine, green tea and chalky minerals. Fresh and incisive on the palate, offering nervy lime, green apple and quince flavors that deepen slowly on the back half and pick up hints of melon and white peach. Plays depth off of energy smoothly and finishes long, dry and precise, with a refreshingly bitter citrus pith note lingering. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2019) — 6 years ago

Peter Martin Ray Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2017 Pinot Noir Peter Martin Ray Vineyard is superb. Bright, focused and wonderfully energetic, the 2017 is simply magnificent. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, crushed rocks, blood orange and mint are all beautifully delineated. There is a real sense of energy here that is compelling. At times, the Peter Martin Ray shows a more somber side. It is that push and pull of elements that makes the 2017 so alluring. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2019) — 6 years ago

Excelsior

Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Excelsior Sauvignon Blanc has an attractive white peach and yellow plum bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine touch of salinity, and brisk and vivacious toward the finish. Delicious. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2018) — 6 years ago

Romano Dogliotti

La Caudrina Moscato d'Asti 2018

Delectable Wine
9.3

Vivid pale golden straw. Enticing aromas of ripe yellow apple, tangerine, lemon ice and sweet spices have a musky undertone. Then bright, lively and pure, offering deep, complex flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sage and minerals that linger impressively on the floral and very long back end. Another standout Moscato d'Asti from Romano Dogliotti; La Caudrina confirms itself as one of the true benchmark wines of the denomination (Dogliotti's usually richer, more concentrated 2018 La Galeisa will be released around March 2019). Monzinger Halenberg Spätlese Riesling 2017

Delectable Wine
9.5

White currant, grapefruit, almond, struck flint and sea breeze aromatically anticipate the combination of bright citricity, mouthwatering salinity and smoky accents that inform a palpably dense palate. In addition, a sense of crushed stone suffusion and a raw oyster-like animal, mineral and herbal savor add to the dazzling complexity and salivary gland-tugging insistence of this bell-clear, vibrantly-sustained vinous tour de force.
