Vintage 2014 / a smell with citrus, orange zest, quince and that rich butterscotch smell, quite complex. Minerals are dominant in smell. Very vibrant taste. Beautiful #silvaner from #Franken | Partnered it with calf’s liver with red onion and chard. Lovely combination, gives happinnes. — 6 years ago
Vintage 2016 / VDP Grosse Lage / from the famous Eschendorfer Lump, this is the topwine of Horst Sauer. Has more than any other #silvaner: beautiful acidity, buttery in smell, lots of minerals, awesome balance even now the wine is ultra young. This #franken wine has potential to age in to a real beauty. — 6 years ago
Vintage 2016 / The 2011 auslese of this wine is the reason I visit the winery. When asked what grape they like better, winegrowers in #franken choose without hesitation for Silvaner. But the #riesling performs masterfully when it is ripe, awesome balance and that ‘touch’ of richness when you know at once: wow, I am drinking a Great Wine! Good balance, nice acidity. — 6 years ago
Vintage 2006 / Retzstadter Langenberg #Bacchus Kabinett / When I told my tailor Paul I visited winegrowers in Franken, the land of ‘bocksbeutel’ bottles, he said: hold on, went to his office and returned with this bottle. How about this? He asked. I thought: 2006... that wine must me dead, Paul, I am sorry. Well take it with you and see, he told me. I put it in the fridge, looked suspiciously at the screw cap... and opened this #Franken wine a few hours later. Colour of old gold, not bad at all... Sniff, sniff. A smell with hints of tangerine, honey, a rose garden. I looked better at the label and then saw: halbtrocken. And kabinett. That means there is residual sugar in this wine (‘restsüsse’). I sip... and am amazed: it is still correct, more than that: it is a joy to drink! In the smell also citrus, gets better with aeration. How amazing wine can be... grow older... and still be vibrant. Lovely experience. / Bacchus is a crossing of riesling and sylvaner and Müller thurgau. — 6 years ago
Vintage 2017 / #Domina is a crossing of #spätburgunder and #blaueportugieser Most of these grapes grow in #Franken and #Ahr Germany. Very dark colour, at first it seems very quaffable and a bit frivolous. After a few minutes in the glass also tones of spices. / Partnered it with turkey liver and salad. At restaurant Vogelsburg in Volkach. — 6 years ago

Vintage 2017 / Amazingly pretty #riesling from #franken (home of sylvaner of course). With a closed smell, very shy, but a vibrant taste with that slightly sweet touch and balance with high acidity that made it perfect for my starter at Sunday lunch, casarecci with chanterelles and pieds de mouton. Makes me very happy! — 6 years ago
