Blind, I would have guessed this was an Argentine Malbec. Deep purple in the bowl. Nose: oak, forest loam mixed with very light chicken coop (pleasantly so!), grilled portobello mushrooms, plums. Flavors, in order from first bit of sip through swallow: Dark, yet not sweet blackberries, light tickles of nutmeg-cinnamon-clove-black pepper, w/ an extra wallop of mace; thick velvet coating of cherry-berry-plum liqueurs, high octane throat leaves traces plum, fading to charbroiled meat- minus the umami. Lovely lingering finish comes back after the fade to make this a keeper! Delicious with dark chocolate. Would go with venison, other gamey foods, fondues. Likely to age well.
