Allegrini
Palazzo della Torre Veronese Corvina Blend
Dark ruby in color with a brick rim.
Earthy nose with blueberries, dried figs, forest floor, wet leaves, animal notes, earth, barnyard, wet wood, spices, black pepper, dark coffee, herbs and vegetables.
Medium-bodied with medium minus acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, blueberries, blackberries, earth, forest floor, green vegetables, graphite, black pepper, spices, wet rocks, tobacco, wood and black pepper.
Medium minus on the finish with fine grained tannins and spices.
This 10 year old Italian Ripasso look alike is over the hill by now, but still drinkable. Good by itself, but better with food. Not balanced anymore, but showing nice complex flavors that were not there in a fresh one.
Good right out of the bottle and better after 90 minutes when it is able to show some tannins.
I paired it with a cheese plate and crackers.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
$20.

I first discovered this wine about 10 years ago while working at an upscale Italian restaurant in NYC and loved it immediately. I haven't had this in a number of years and am a bit disappointed that they've gone to a more New World style but it reminds me of the wines I loved that got me into this business in the first place.

Jul 31st, 2015Had this for a while, still really good! Dried black fruit, medium acidity, medium tannins. A little heavy for the salmon but the anchovy sauce leveled the playing field.
