2012. This wine is crazy ambitious. It hits the mark in some ways: (oak usage, noble reduction, pristinely ripe fruit) but misses it in others (soft acid, diacetyl, and just a general chubby feeling). I get that they're trying to make an American Montrachet, and it certainly tastes expensive, but I just don't think California's going to let them do it. I just don't think you can get enough phenolic ripeness while maintaining acid and alcohol in this part of California. I fully respect the effort and thrust of the wine, but I can think of a few other ways I'd rather spend my money. Would be really interested to try it in a really cool vintage like '11 or '98.

Dark gold color. Deep, complex nose filled with butter and melons. Wine was deep and high quality. Really enjoyed it.

Crisp, excellent fruit, benefitting from bottle age. Goes perfect with my roasted halibut.
