Blinded, I thought this might be from Sicily or Bordeaux. Turns out it was both, and quite great. I'm all for the exaltation of local varieties, but there's still room for interesting outside blends like this.

Blackberries, prunes, dried figs, graphite, cassis, sun dried tomatoes, bell pepper, mocha, oregano, graphite, iron. Rounded acid/mellow smooth velvet tannin balance, lush silky texture, medium/full bodied., complex herbal/slightly smoky finish. Highly aromatic, great juxtaposition with such a light finish.

Black fruits with graphite, oriental spices and leather. Great mouth feel with softened tannins, great acidity and dusty notes of vanilla and cedar. Might not make it through dinner.
