Nose presents baking spices and a touch of soft brown sugar. Palate is dense and layered, as usual for this producer (before the winery changed hands the first time around). Notes of coffee, tobacco and maple syrup come through on the mid palate. Nice tannin/acidity combination complete what is a classic BV presentation. Drink these within the 24 months. This winery has been on the slide ever since Ed Snyder and team departed. I tasted some of the 18’s and 19’s and they were a mere shadow of the previous product.

I tend to think this is showing its age. Tertiary notes are prominent. Still well structured, with coffee and cinnamon notes. Good acidity brings home a nice presentation.

Very tasty. This had the exuberant fruit of a barrel sample. Nice barrel notes of toast, vanilla, and caramel as well. Loads of tannins, but they have a nice, velvety feel to them. Fun now, but should be even better with some bottle age.

Full review and final rating to come after decant. But immediately upon opening it is amazing. After an hour, still showing great balance and lift. It's big but not heavy. Great minerality along with dark fruit, pencil shaving, melted chocolate, anise, and maybe some clove. Agree with another tasting note of forest floor. The oak is integrated and adds just the right notes. Harmonious. Not much if anything more I could ask for. Probably is a 98+ or maybe even better.
