Served blind, I thought that an oaky Zin had been poured... quality wise, this IS very good, but stylistically its best-before-date has passed.

Liquorice, milky, silky on smell. Creamy, pure Ribera del Duero on mouth. Long persistence, well balanced, elegant. A great great one. Pairs with roasted baby lamb.

Ready to drink. Dusty lavender nose, soft subtle red licorice and cherry palate, supple tannins from start to finish, lingering flavor/texture of raw almond skin.

A baby but showed well after an hour or two in the decanter. Will be amazing in another 5-8 years.

Right out of the gate this 2009 Ribera has what I love SO much about the style that I'm learning is the signature of the great wines from the region: from start to finish it's imbued with a grace and power that, to me, can be summed up on two words: Great. Juice. Just gorgeous from head to toe and succulent on all points in-between with a finish that reflects every bit of the wonderfully juicy experience that now captures the senses, and wraps the whole thing in a deep ruby ribbon that seductively wraps its way around the soul. Love the wines from the Ribera, and this, in a nutshell, is that.

Tobacco and cedar dominate the nose and the initial taste on the palate. Once that subsides black fruit comes through. This masculine wine is still young and tannic and could benefit from a few more years.
