Bodegas Juan Gil
(Silver Label) Jumilla Monastrell

Juan Gil Jiménez first built his winery in 1916 in Jumilla, and passed it down to his future generations. From 100% Certified Organic Monastrell (or Mourvèdre in France), in chalky, stony soils, aromas of dark berry fruits and woody spice. Aged 12 months in French oak, palate shows blackberry and plum with smoky wood flavors and notes of cacao and cinnamon spice. Soft ripe tannins, medium+ ending with a light toasty earthy character. Great value! Very nice!

A good value at $20, and probably available cheaper. Dry and tannic, probably should have gone another year or two. Fruit, raisins, chocolate on the nose, medium weight on the palate, with a good finish.

Full-bodied, with red fruit and subtle vanilla. Not quite as smooth as the Clio, but a good stand-in.

A nice, deep, spicy cab. Not a lot of tannins, and feels like I can taste mostly mods to lows. No sharp note. The spice really is the forward flavor, and I love it! This may be my favorite cab so far. :)
