Bodegas Muga
Reserva Rioja Tempranillo
La Rioja, Spain
Might be the least impressive bottle of Muga I've ever had. Lacking in every category. Dang it to heck!

Popped and poured at a San Diego restaurant. Great inviting bouquet. Rich and round in the mouth. Really good, especially for the price.

Black cherry, tropical, coconut, plum, sweet tobacco and vanilla. M+ round tannin. Dark fruit, long finish. Lovely wine.

A top-notch value when it comes to well-built and seriously complex wine. Begins with a blast of American oak, with a range of sweet/pungent spice, sexy fruit, and a classic bloody animal leather barnyard thing.

One thing I've missed since moving to California: damn fine Rioja.
