Bodegas Muga
Reserva Unfiltered Rioja Tempranillo Blend
Wow! This wine is delicious! Shows lots of aroma on the nose, hint of vanilla, ripe red berries, black berry, ripe fig and black berry, plum with backing spices, star anise, cinnamon, all spice and clove. Slightly savory like diluted soy sauce. Smooth tannin, med to med plus acidity, med plus finish.
Goes perfectly with Soy sauce braised pork belly with tofu. Dynamite!

2013 vintage a bit hot and needs some time to settle down. Nice fruit and oak balance.

Mar 27th, 2018A solid budget conscious choice if ever there were one. Mocha, pepper and plums. It's well made and goes well with a steak. Simple.

Aug 24th, 2019Deep ruby color with light cherry undertones and a wide brim. I hope you like oak because there’s plenty to be found here. Almost shockingly, I can’t say this is over oaked at all, it really is well integrated. Fun little nose with a bit of pepper, cherry candies, stone minerality, and oak. Rioja always seems to get me tingly, especially Muga and while this isn’t the biggest star in their stable it’s consistently good. High acidity that needs some time to even out, but still leaving a refined mouthfeel. Seemingly more New World than Old on the rich palate, there is a ton of energetic fruit here and very interesting minerality. Mushrooms, herbs, and smoke round things out. I like this wine a lot. I’ve got a feeling that in a few more years I might love it.
