Bodegas y Vinedos Ilurce
Rio Madre Rioja Graciano
This graciano from Rioja pretty much offers as much aromatic complexity as you can get in a $10 bottle. Overripe blue and black fruit, almost a blueberry pie. Chocolate, leather, animal musk, and a touch of brett. The palate felt super flabby on day 1, with little acid or tannin to give structure to the rich fruit, but oddly enough feels much more integrated with tannins speaking a little stronger on day 2. This would benefit from at least an hour or two of decanting after opening. Unfortunately the finish is slightly bitter and not especially long or satisfying. There’s plenty of interest here for the price but there are some small issues keeping this from being a great wine.
