Bruno Giacosa
Santo Stefano di Neive Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo
Tasted blind alongside another bagged bottle. This is light, thin reddish amber in color. Looks very old. Has a perfumed nose with notes of maraschino cherries, clove, tea, roses, some anise, some cinnamon. Very feminine and high pitched. As old as it looks in the glass, it gains weight with more air - even though we're told it's been in a decanter for 9+ hours already. Great structure and fruit vs acidity balance. Easy to guess as old Italian, but I go back to 60's Monfortino with my guess. The next morning I can still smell and taste this wine. Loved this.

Aug 16th, 2020Wow. A really seductive nose with wild strawberry, dark tobacco and dense plummy fruit. Sweet and soulful but with a gloriously expansive middle. Really lovely stuff.

1 person found it helpfulNov 30th, 2018Brown bag, red label. This was a curiosity that needed air. Wish I could have let this sit in a decanter for a day before drinking it. Lots of VA covering up the details. Underneath there's a beautiful wine somewhere. Very classic. Cherry, leather, licorice, clove. #giacosa

Jan 23rd, 20151990 Giacosa Santo Stefano di Neive Barbaresco. LACMA group lunch. Massive inconsistencies in the bottles. Two had premox, but other two were perfect.

Apr 21st, 2018Garnet with a medium brown rim. Roses and cherries on the nose, with tar and mushroom notes. Medium body, with great acidity and very long finish. Excellent.

Dec 24th, 2017Loads of tertiary flavours evident, but plenty of drive and vitality remains.
