Dark, clear reddish purple in the glass. Nose is shy on opening, eventually yielding black raspberry and patent leather. This is echoed in the lighter than expected palate. Tannins are manageable (medium) on opening — a little too much for the appellation — and soften significantly with air. Acidity is characteristically bright (medium plus). Finish is medium long and dark. Clearly made for food, and priced to go with just about anything. You could probably hold this for a bit, but you only paid fifteen bucks. Drink this now for a “lite” Riserva experience. Cellar your Brunello and pricier Riservas.
