Fattoria Selvapiana

Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese Blend 2016

Fattoria Selvapiana – Chianti Rufina 2016
Chianti Rufina DOCG – Tuscany, Italy 🇮🇹

Overview:
Made predominantly from Sangiovese, Selvapiana is one of the benchmark producers of the Chianti Rufina subzone—often overshadowed by Chianti Classico but known for its elegance and longevity.

Aromas & Flavors:
Red berries lead the way, with cherry and cranberry joined by subtle wild herbs, dried flowers, and a touch of earthy minerality. With age, a gentle floral lift and savory nuance have emerged.

Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied with rounded acidity and fine tannins, delivering a graceful and balanced structure. The 2016 vintage has shown itself remarkably well, aging more elegantly than many would expect outside of Chianti Classico.

Food Pairings:
Excellent with Tuscan staples such as bistecca alla Fiorentina, roasted pork with herbs, or a simple pasta with tomato and pecorino.

Verdict:
A refined and elegant Chianti Rufina that proves this appellation can age beautifully. Balanced, expressive, and surprisingly complex for its category.

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2016

Dried red cherry fruit, really fine acidity and balance, not a big blockbuster, but a lovely mid-weight Chianti, lingering finish. — 2 months ago

Castello di Bossi

Riserva Berardo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2018

This up-front, fleshy Chianti is drinking really nicely right now. Pretty extroverted nose shows dark, macerated cherry, iodiney minerality, and a little loamy soil. In the mouth it’s pretty full, with a big whack of fruit initially, some tertiary notes developing and becoming apparent in the back half of the palate. Decent acids and still some soft tannin providing some scaffolding. I’d like a bit more linearity and persistence in the finish but for a ‘18 it’s darn nice. — 19 days ago

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Savoury red cherry with powdery lavender aromas. On the palate sour red cherry - a brilliant food wine. As Morrell wines said and I agree, “2016 is without a doubt the finest vintage for Chianti Classico. “ Drinking well right now. — 2 months ago

Like this producer and of course 2016 was a great vintage. Does it need more time?

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2022

Seriously good Chianti. Black cherry, candied orange, tobacco leaf, nice acid and full body. Maybe even too good for pizza…but good with pizza — 12 days ago

Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

I’m a fan of this Chianti Classico. 5-yr old showing well and a smooth finish. Probably could even improve with more years in the bottle. — 15 days ago

Badia a Passignano Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2021

Very good, as always (my third vintage). A cherry, strawberry, leather, vanilla and smoke maybe. High, pleasant acidity. Tannins on their way to smoothness. — a month ago
