This is an example of why plain ol’ Chianti Classico from a reputable producer is one of my top go-to’s for a weeknight dinner. Nose is lively, with intense just-ripe cherry, with a contrasting sour note, and a slight note of stony gravel. Mouthfilling flavors, with a round, initial whack of fruit that quickly turns minerally/savory. Tannin, if it ever was there, is resolved, and there’s sparky acidity. Finish has nice length and is lip-smacking. And it’s really cheap (I paid $14).
