Castelli del Grevepesa (Castelgreve)
Clemente VII Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
Drank over two nights 6/25/19-6/26/19.
Simple, yet decidedly Italian nose of earth and red cherry. Flavors of leather, soil, red and black fruit are backed by firm tannins. Fruit is a bit lacking, as tar, earth, and tannins dominate the finish. This improved significantly on day two, as it was paired with lamb chops, as opposed to the original pairing of Stromboli. Needs some meat and time to soften the tannic structure.
3/18/6/3/4= 84 pts.

Maybe I am just not a fan of Chianti was not for me, but smooth.

May 30th, 2018My wife and I learned about Chianti Classico from watching Series 1 of The Wine Show. Before then, Chianti was the bamboo covered bottles from the 70’s that were classified as bad wine, to me at least. But the show changed that for me. The “Classico” at the end of the name makes a big difference but it has to have the black rooster band around the neck as well. We have tried a few at restaurants and were impressed but we hadn’t grabbed one for home before this one. I think it was a good choice after a write up in the LCBO magazine pointed it to our attention. Flavourful, smooth, well balanced and after 20 minutes of decanting it was ready for a taste. Pleased with the choice. Really enjoyed this CC and it was a great compliment for our steak dinner. Good stuff.
