Wow. Amazing gusto from a Merlot. Frank over two days. Tons of tannin and structure- next one will be opened in 5 years. Lovely notes of dark fruit and a hint of toasted tobacco A touch dry on the palate - but really enjoyable.

Aug 29th, 2024A good week for merlot - right bank last night. Completely different tonight. A hint of oak, chocolate and blackberries on the nose. Well integrated tannins lots of time left but drinking well a gentle but very long finish.

Known for their Chianti, this Castello di Ama Merlot was super elegant, balanced, and incredibly food-friendly with only 13.5% ABV. What California Merlot should aspire to be and actually would give a run for the money to Masseto, at about 1/4 the price.

May 1st, 2016Tool awhile to open up (decanted) pretty tart on the attack. Some tannins - 1/2 hour in - opened up beautifully.
