Catherine et Pierre Breton
Clos Sénéchal Bourgueil Cabernet Franc
I just cannot get past the brett with these guys. It is always so dominant. And objectively unpleasant. There, I said it. Where do I hand in my sommelier pin?

Jan 21st, 2016Deep, dark, tart fruit, shading into black olive with its age. Precise and with a density I don't usually find in Bourgeuil. Fantasmo.

Apr 20th, 2015"Like a dusty book Harry potter found, in hagrids beard, on the nose" Lively on the palate showing age early, in a good way. Fruit is still alive but shedding the youthful fruit moving into complexity and depth.

Apr 6th, 2015Plums and pencil lead on the nose, tart cherries and crushed granite on the palate. This wine has the most incredible sharp, focused minerality. The Bretons, the OGs of the natural wine movement in the Loire, never disappoint.

Feb 29th, 201680+year ungrafted old vines. Funky on the nose: earthy, mushrooms, reductive. Smooth and tart. Needs a bit more time. Light to medium body.

Jan 15th, 2016Herbal, red floral and berry aromas, with loads of brambly blackberry and plum flavors. Tannins are medium and balanced by juicy acidity and 12% abv. I'm sure that this wine would cellar and age well if I had the patience. But no.
