Incredibly layered and complex, powerful and intense with terrific integration of fruit and earth. Blackberry, cassis, damp earth and hints of smoke. Sensational now and can have decades to go.

Wafts of dried red fruits, pencil shaving, dried blackberry, blueberry, cigar box and a dash of black truffle emerge from the glass. Deep garnet, the 2001 Château Ausone plays in its own league within the 2001 Bordeaux vintage. Full-bodied and expanding like a kaleidoscope, the palate is characterized by fine-grained, pixelated tannins, high fruit concentration and a long-lasting, majestic finish. This is serious stuff. Drink now until 2040.

Young! bit closed to be honest after an hour plus decanting...definitely revisiting this big vintage

2001. Nah. I don't usually put it this way but this is really like a shut young ch. Figeac. Toss.

Developing nose, but surprisingly fresh. Tannins still rich. Tobacco, herbs de Provence.
