Château Batailley
Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon
nose starts plummy and earthy, then blossoms with violets, followed by cassis, tobacco and classic Pauillac pencil ~ palate starts with tart dark berry fruit, fresh and then like candied Nerds leading to a powdery tannin finish

May 10th, 2023Still a bit dumb and closed but a sincere promise of stone-laced cassis and emerging cedar. This will improve, but wait 5 years.

Mar 7th, 2019A little bit disappointing but probably opened 10 years too early as it’s got an abundance of heavy fruit that needs to mellow for much longer. Tastes almost like an American Cab Sauv at the moment

Dec 31st, 2021So powerful. Thick aroma flavor with various leather, wet oak, matured black fruits. Concentration. Density. Fruitiness. Herb came out. More than 2 hours decanting, we can enjoy it even 11 years to good vintage. But more years in cellar would make it much smooth. Matched.with ram. 2010 @2850, wine plus - , 210712-211029

Jul 12th, 2021Very dark and opaque. Dark fruits with tannins well integrated. There is a nice saline acidity running through that gets more pronounced with time. It is drinking, but is likely to benefit from a couple of hour in a decanter or several more years in bottle.

Jun 17th, 2020Seductive bouquet of black current, cedar, fungus, cocoa, and hint of smoke and spice. The palate, echoing the nose, was round and soft but not without tension. Polished tannins. This is a rather forward Pauillac. Very classy!

Sep 4th, 2018Probably drinking young, could use 3-5yrs. You wouldn’t think Bordeaux from the nose. Large cherry flavors with surprisingly high OH on the palate. Smooth, but not sure that’s a good thing as it lacks power, definitive characteristics, and finish. Merlot like but honestly disappointing.
