Château Beychevelle
Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
Another Wednesday and another Bordeaux. I have opened the 2014 Château Beychevelle 51% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, licorice, graphite, chocolate, black pepper and rich soil.
On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, green bell pepper, menthol, graphite and rich dark soil.
The wine is full bodied velvety smooth with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannin that leads into a long pleasing finish. Nothing better than a beautiful Bordeaux. Enjoy your rest of the week and please stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

First wine in flight four for the Bordeaux Master's Class at Heart's Delight with wines from Saint Julien and Pauillac.
Medium ruby red. Layered nose with cassis, black currants, cinnamon and nutmeg. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Not a lot of fruit on the palate, quite earthy, a little bit of dark fruit, a touch green and needs some time to integrate further. Long finish. Drink from 2020 till 2035.

Apr 12th, 2017On the nose, jammy, strawberried and mash mellow smelling.
On the palate, it’s oakay, charcoaled, ashed tasting. Young but drinkable. Another 5 years would be better.

Jan 5th, 2018Tasted at Chateau
51% M, 39% CS, 5% CF, and 5% PV
Deep purple, no sign of age, compact rim. Youthful.
Fruit forward, dominated by red currant, underripe raspberry, red cherry. Baking spices and new wood smell.
On the palate, surprisingly approachable. Med plus tannin but softened already, med full body, dry. The midpalate really needs to fleshen out. Slightly lacking. Finish on nutty new oak.
Time will tell if this will turn out to be in line with a line up of superb recent wines from this classic house. 89+?

Tasted 1/20/2017 At UGCB 2014 Vintage tasting in Miami. At the Biltmore.
Deep, impressive nose of cassis, pencil lead, and toasted cedar wood. Rich palate of black fruits with medium, already well-integrated tannins. Long finish. At this stage tastes more impressive than the Leoville Barton. WOTN for me. Great now, but will likely improve with some time in bottle.
4/22-23/9/5/4+50 = 94-95 pts.

My all-time favorite Beychevelle. Way too early to open but after a few hours, hey I can taste indigenous flavor from Bordeaux region. Thanks to Mr. Shibuya.
