Dried earthy, smoky goodness... Still some ripeness to the fruit, silky smooth

This '82 was one of my epiphany wines around 15 years ago, in the midst of all the Aussie Shiraz this highlight arose, it started me down this quite interesting journey. This bottle was stored impeccably, still has a great mid-palate intensity, but it's all dried out black fruit & dark flowers now. Dried black tea & cigar leaf.

Tasted blind. Reddish tawny, opaque and regal in the glass. Notes of currants, black cherry, pencil lead, chopped walnuts and some dark soil. My deductive powers take me immediately to 82 Bordeaux. But which one? I guess 82 Latour. This is maybe the best Ducru I’ve had.

Good looking bottle with a base neck fill. Reddish tawny color. Almost opaque. Masculine nose with notes of black cherry, cola, forest floor, cedar box and a little blueberry. Fat and rich in the mouth. Silky fruit with fine grained, balanced acidity, and a great, lasting textured finish. If tasting blind I would guess this to be a younger mid-90s wine. Great now but I think it will be interesting to watch as it gets more complex with another decade of age.

Like the '82 Gruaud, the nose isn't there. Palate is fantastic though. Textured, long, powerful. Dark fruit, pretty spice.

Upstaged by the 1959 unfortunately, but still an incredible wine.

Still some fruit present but with a wicked delicious mineral character. #bordeaux #stjulien #cabernet

1982: A triumph. Fresh, well cellar example. Wish I saw this around more often. Ripe and welcoming.
