Château Fargueirol
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache
Primarily Grenache (70%) with smaller amounts of other Rhône varietals (Syrah 20%, Mourvèdre 5% and Cinsault 5%) blended in. Dark burgundy color with a slight garnet rim. Primary aromas are smoke and oak with hints of blackberry, leather and forest floor. Dark fruit (blackberry, dark plum and black currant) on the palate with additional notes of roasted meat, tobacco and black pepper spice. Piercing oak on the long finish. Volatile acidity and tannins are a bit aggressive (angular). Very bold. Better with food.

Jul 16th, 2023Complex, medium-to-full-bodied. Dry and tannic but enough body to balance nicely. Earthy and subtle. But not wowed for a chateauneuf.

Had roasted lamb chops that cried out for this wine. Beautiful impressive wine…

A beautiful wine. Dark cherry fruit, ripe plum and a hint of spice. There is plenty of tannin to make this a very deeply structured offering. Plenty left to cellar, I will try it again in 5 years.

Sep 17th, 2019Punched in the nose with the aroma of melting strawberry hard candy. Remember the ones your grandma had in her purse with the gooey insides and foil wrapper meant to look like a strawberry? That and oooooooverripe watermelon. Not what I expected. Thin and a little diluted on the palate with a vodka note. So my guess is this was flawed. I bought two other bottles and will see if I can garner any clues from them. But there's no way this wine is quite right. No way.
