Tonight we have opened the 2009 Chateau La Tour du Pin. This is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. This property was owned by Antoine Mouiex from 1947 to 2006 when the owners of Cheval Blanc purchased it from the Mouiex family. The name was officially changed in 2008 from La Tour du Pin Figeac to Chateau La Tour du Pin. The same Technical Team responsible for producing wine of Cheval Blanc is now in charge of wines at La Tour du Pin. I am inclined just from this fact alone to be keeping my eyes on this Chateau. If you are a fan of Cheval Blanc this is where you can get your bang for the buck.

On the nose there is vibrant aromas of wonderful black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant and licorice.

On the palate is good black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black plum, green bell pepper, herbal notes and nice minerality.

The wine is medium to full bodied with medium acidity and smooth medium sandy tannins that is well balanced and has a pleasingly long finish. I am truly enjoying this wine that is brightening up my weekend. Please be safe and have a continued great weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

2009 this threw a significant sediment perhaps a storage issue as bought via auction cab franc dominate and linear burnt briar on a hot summer day hard to get to the fruit and stops to short to get much more still a good wine

I had a bottle of this wine a while ago and it was spectacular: 94pts. The second, which I drank a few weeks ago, was very good, but not as good as the first one, but still pretty decent: 90 pts. On average 92. A fine claret by the owners of Cheval Blanc.

After the amazing 2010 I had to try the 09 @ £30! Owned by & next door to Cheval-Blanc on old Figeac land 👍 & it's a fab buy to drink now to next 5yrs

🍇 80% Merlot & 20% Cab F

🍷 Opaque deep ruby

👃 Dark plum, blackcurrant & dark cherry through rich smoked oak w/ crushed minerals & farmyard then choc cherry gateaux

👄 Med+ creamy body of ripe chewy black plums/cherries/berries w/ a warm cocoa & gravelly backbone

🎯 Med+ full fruity dark fruity creamy coating w/ a mineral & melted chocolate wallop

Just ok. 80% Merlot. Rest is Cab Franc. Came out of the bottle very fruit forward then settled down and some of the terroir came out.
