Château Le Coteau
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
2018 vintage. One of those rare Margaux estates that has not been absorbed by Crus Classés. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Owner Eric Léglise did a great job here, a textbook refined Margaux. Cassis, flowers and cedar wood. Ripe black fruit and a little of the heat of the vintage, all balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Interestingly the vineyards are covered with flowers in an attempt to promote biodiversity. Living near, I believe I should visit this estate soon. Highly recommended. Abv. 14%.

Mar 10th, 2022Bright ruby center still pink medium wide rim. Quite aromatic on the nose , with violets , red currant, cassis. In the mouth , there is nice blackcurrant and cassis, quite sweet and a touch of alcohol , but tannins are rounded and acidity is balanced . On the finish it is slightly less long that I would have hoped , and comes across as quite light weight . Overall not a bad wine , and maintains a good caricature of a wine from Margaux, though could have a bit more stuffing and complexity to be truly interesting, especially from this vintage . I don’t see that it will be very long lived, already drinking well.
