One encounter with an ex-château bottle suggested that the 1966 Lynch-Bages is not to be overlooked. Deep in color, it has a tempting nose that unfolds gradually in the glass, graphite and cedar commingling with crushed stone and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm entry, very cedary with touches of desiccated orange peel. It's a bit conservative on the finish, though that is a leitmotif of the 1966 vintage. Well-preserved bottles should still be giving pleasure. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2023)

Jul 20th, 2023Beautiful deep garnet glinting color, bouquet of smoked meats, an earthy air coolness. Palate is brambly and mushroomy, spicy, and exotic, kept forward driven by a lively acidity.

May 21st, 2018Good looking bottle. Still reddish in the glass mostly opaque. Dusty red fruit in the nose. Nice in the mouth. Over several hours this is good and average over and over. Nice for the vintage.

Jul 25th, 2015I felt it drank like a 50 year old wine. On the most part I like to drink my wines younger. But, it was still a great to experience this wine!

Jan 13th, 2016In 2016 to drink 50 year old Bordeaux.... Who knew. This wine was past peak but yummy.... Classic payload with cedar and tobacco but still showing fruit. Better than expected and a nice example of aged Bordeaux.
