Château Montrose
La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
The warm 2009 vintage means way more merlot here than normal, and it shows. Big, ripe, plush, comfy. #kogodwinemerchant

Feb 27th, 2015Really a pretty nice second wine from a great Bordeaux house (Montrose). In general I prefer St Julien to St Estephe but this is very good. Decanted 2 hours which I recommend. Inky in the glass. Some good secondary notes on the nose. Fruit is very there, but more acid to keep it balanced than I expected. Nice with a prime ribeye on the grill.

May 22nd, 20221hr+ decant, would benefit from more. Dark red color. Nose was fairly tight, but contained dark fruit and tar. Wine displayed excellent texture and medium body. More fruit forward with cherries than French terroir. Medium plus finish. Always enjoyable and developed nicely with more air. Started at 94 and ended at 95.

Jul 18th, 2017Rather disappointed with this. Much promise on the nose, but didn't have the complexity, finish nor stamina to last in the glass.

Feb 17th, 2017This is the 2nd for Chateau Montrose which is 2nd class in Bordeaux. I tasted this one to compare with 2008. Color is same, deep red violet color, but a bit deeper, not raspberry nose, it should be pepper like flavor, taste is black fruits like. It has robust structure, body is also different close to full, then felt more tannin, to make me feel its potential. The degree of perfection for the balance is much higher. This is completely different from 2008. But, later, I realized the ratio is different, Merlot82/CS18 to CS65/Merlot25/CF8 for 08, bcs lots of CS were used for 1st label. @2300, Winona, 170121-170126
