This is in the zone right now, a notch better than my last bottle. Silky and perfectly Pomerol, refined tannins and a push of persistent classic Bordeaux with toast, cherry, some tobacco and loads of earth and forest floor. #merlot

Christmas is for Claret!
2003 Chateau Montviel, Pomerol, Bordeaux

In the PERFECT place right now, the nose and aroma is pronounced and full with deeply complex layers of black cherry, black plum, sweet tobacco, roast beef, sweet mint and a dusting of mocha. The palate is seamless, front to back with ripe and fine tannin. A beautiful 13.5% abv.

Smoky and yet subtle, mature merlot Bordeaux with some fruit still peaking through - simple mid palate but uplifting finish - worth buying several of

Terrific wine, subdued Merlot that exudes plum, black raspberry, loam, mint and tobacco, a savory, and pure Merlot. Oak is perfectly integrated. Fresh acidity, soft and plush tannins don't interfere. A pleasure to drink.

Thanks, Garagiste. Old world, good fruit, fair complexity. Why pay $100+ for bordeaux that needs 10 years in the cellar when you can have this for $40? Makes little sense to me

Better than the last bottle but definitely ready to drink.

Rimmerman strikes again. Fair price for solid wine. Berries are there, if only on the nose, fading to tobacco and more weighted to damp earth on the palate. Probably won't leave these lonely in the cellar much longer. This one needs love now.
