The 2016 Château Pichon Baron is drop-dead stunning and one of the most compelling and complete wines from the vintage. Composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, this begins with wonderfully complex aromatics of ripe dark currants, sweet exotic spices, roasted coffee grounds, fresh florals, graphite and hints of loam which all come together seamlessly in the glass. On the palate this follows through and continues to thoroughly impress with its full body and beautifully polished, yet supportive tannins and a deep core of ripe fruit. It demonstrates remarkable depth and concentration along with outstanding balance and finesse leading up to the long, graceful finish. This wine has it all and while it is already quite fascinating in its youth it is ultimately built for the long term. This is an epic vintage for Pichon Baron, and could eventually go down as one the greatest wines ever from this legendary Château.

Drank 1/18/19 at the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux event in Miami.  All wines from the 2016 Vintage.

Tasting pour, no formal notes taken.  Most of these wines are very tight, and will require 5-15 years to really come together.  Many will likely improve a few points with time.

Delicious dark fruit, but I preferred the Pichon Lalande. A stunning wine nonetheless. Will age many years.

Immediately out of the bottle, beautiful dark ruby coloration. Thick and lush with no translucency. On the nose, smokiness, black currant, blackberry, blueberry, and anise. On the palate, full body, mirroring the nose. Still tight. Needs to decant. After decanting, on the nose some notes of forest floor, chocolate and espresso are included. On the palate, notes of florals, smoke, black currant, espresso, vanilla, dark berry and oak. Long finish. Lots of jammy fruits layered with secondary and tertiary notes. Lovely complex wine. Tannins are still strong. Should age wonderfully.
