Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. A Blend of 90% Merlot & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark red with ripe berry fruit and pepper spice aromas. On the palate cherry and plum with smoke and floral notes. Rustic tannins, medium length ending on the spicy side. Will stand up to food well. Drink now.

A bit sweet for our taste, but with some bottle age, this 2012 is actually rather nice. Nose of dusty tannins, cherry, palate is midweight, correct notes for the varietal, sweet plum, soy sauce, prunes on the finish. Bien.

Deep ruby. Softly aromatic. Not as fruit forward as some merlots. Cedar, black cherry, dark fruit jam flavors. An earthy note, which some reviewers call "dry and dusty," which is a very nice description of the this subtle taste. Some alcohol burn. Soft grip on the finish. Canoe Ridge Estate is a high elevation, windy vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills, Washington. Stout 14.5% alcohol. Lovely wine. $24.50

Spectacular Merlot! Smooth as butter with an intensely fruity bouquet and taste.
