This Talbot is in the zone, full-on pencil lead and camphor leads a fleshy, sexy but high-class experience. Merlot-driven black-red fruit shines through, tannins resolved and big, round with a smoky tobacco on the back end. Nice.

This estate owes its name to Connetable Talbot, the English general & governor of the province of Guyenne who was defeated at the famous Battle of Castillon in 1453. Aromas of sweet black fruits with flinty notes. On the palate blackberry & plum with cacao and tobacco tones, complex, adding cedar on a well balanced frame. The ‘09 with a bit of age has developed well, fine tannins, lingering ending with fruit and mineral character. Nice!

An absolutely wonderful Talbot. Perfect condition and with a 2.5 hour decant this is drinking wonderfully. Excellent pairing with a medium rare dry aged strip steak. Quite seamless on the palate with excellent acid and a hint of menthol. Deep dark fruit and earth. Just lovely.
