Château Tanunda
Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon
A pretty color of dark ruby with a nice red brick rim.
Tangy nose of cranberries, blueberries, pomegranates, raspberries, earth, Light vegetables, pencil lead, vinaigrette and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with high acidity and long legs.
Dry and tart on the palate with cranberries, raspberries, pomegranates, sour cherries, earth, light wood, green herbs, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Short finish with fine grained tannins and tart cranberries.
This Australian Cabernet Sauvignon is already over the hill, as it lost much of its black fruits by now. Unbalanced and tart, but still drinkable and better with food. A little disappointing as I expected more years out of it.
Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
14.5% alcohol by volume.

Earthy on the nose with blueberries, black currants, sweet plums, light oak, licorice, spices, coffee, earth, peppercorn, vegetables and green herbs.

This Australian Cabernet is still drinking nicely, but might be on the way out. Unbalanced with mild complexity and a nice mouthfeel. Earthy with a tangy finish.
Needs an hour to open up properly and remove some of the acidity.

It is time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. This week it's from Australia.
A very pretty color of dark ruby with a wide reddish/ brick rim.
Nice nose of raspberries, strawberries, currants, oak, smoke, green vegetables, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, wet leaves, dark coffee and graphite.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with raspberries, strawberries, sour cherries, earth, leather, wood, eucalyptus, wet rocks, vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Short tart finish with fine grained tannins and tart cranberries.
This is a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. Not fully balanced, but showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel. Spicy and tangy. Might be better in a year or two.
Peaked after an hour of airtime and then died pretty quickly after that.
I paired it with a cheese plate, fresh berries and dried fruits.
Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

The cellar door is one of the most interesting in the Barossa Valley. This wine is typical of Barossa Cab Sav and was very enjoyable. Drank with BBQ lamb.
