Château Thivin
Cuvée Zaccharie Côte de Brouilly Gamay
Dynamite showing. Nose is deep, layered and complex with red cherries and forest floor. Wow. Wet earth as well. Really glorious and showing so well and developed. Palate is so elegant and full of class. Rich, red cherries and a creamy mid palate lead to a super velvet finish and fruit floods the zone only to finish elegant and mineral with sweet, sappy and wispy tannins. Just a gorgeous showing. So juicy yet decadent. Really leans into the vintage.

Sep 30th, 2024Gorgeous nose of mulch, cranberry bog, black cherries and loads of minerals. Subtle and gorgeous. Palate is rich and ripe and like Gamay boiled down to its essence. Black cherry and blackberry fruit but also seems a bit closed in on itself. Likely needs 2-3 hours to come around. This is like Thivin’s Monfortino. Will come back to this as besides initial blast of fruit and trailing off mineral finish. Very nice but I’m sure there is more.

1 person found it helpfulNov 10th, 2019This wine is super chill. Cranberries. Lots of cranberry. Little bit of blackberry. Little bit of “sticks and rope.” It tastes like something you should be drinking on a cloudy not-quite-spring day (which this is). Not velvety enough to be wintery, not quite light enough to be summery. Super smooth and not messing around. A pleasant respite from heavy shit that won’t slap you in the face. It wears stripes and has a scarf in its hair.

Deep ruby concentrated color, unfiltered. Notes of evolution, undergrowth. Marked intensity in the extraction of the fruit, like the breeding notes. The whole is still relatively young and will easily support 5/10 years of aging. Magical cuvée still full of potential.

Getting a bit deeper into Gamay because it’s accessible, affordable, can be complex, and is altogether pretty easy. And this one is top notch.

Jan 16th, 2020Wonderful ripe berry on the nose, and a hint of sulphur. Upon opening, we noted violets and cherry with a slight sour note. Barely any tannins, and super smooth.
