Clos des Papes
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend
Pure class. CDP cannot be beat, producer trumps vintage. Graceful throughout its silky-rich structure and lengthy finish. Gorgeous array of red fruits, moving from fresh berries, to confiture and moving to dried. Raspberry in particular. Fig spice cake, sweet wood smoke, garrigue and lavender, menthol, some espresso and warm spices mingling about. Threads of roast meat, leather, tobacco. Just a lovely showing, this is prime right now, but could easily go another 5-8 years and mature beautifully.

Pleased that this was showing well, as last bottle was flawed. Unique flavor profile that does not include citrus or oak. Velvety, almost oily mouth feel.

Dec 7th, 2014Incredible #chateauneufdupape which was kept casually at room temperature for many years before I was fortunate enough to receive it as a gift. Popped the cork, and within about 30 minutes it really flowered. The overall aromatic impression is a balance of spiced cured meat set against plum and red fruit compote; layers of garrigue, underbrush, mushroom below that. Luscious mouthfeel with plenty of lively acidity, stewed fruit, some olive notes but the tannins have completely integrated and softened to just a hint of what they once must have been. This is a beautiful CDP that has aged gracefully over 17 years.

Very enjoyable CdP; loaded with raspberry, plum and other fruit with some earthy and meaty notes. Drinking great with a nice long finish. Decanted about 2 hours before we sat down to a Beef Burg dinner.

In a very pretty place now with soft tannin and a sweet finish. High toned raspberry popsicle, lavender, and pencil shavings on the nose.
On the palate, raspberry semi-sweet chocolate, black olives, dried herbs and a hint of orange peel.
