Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles.

My second time to have this, and I think it showed slightly better (or maybe different?). Ready to go at pop. Lots of sweet and fresh fruits here like raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, plum with cedar, grilled peppercorns and violets. Dense on the palate but not overwhelming. A distinct sweetness to it. Licorice, baked mixed berry pie, baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. If you have any, this is a good time to open.

Initial leathery notes. Creme de cassis came through later with time in the decanter. 2001 vintage. Not overly herbaceous - very polished. An excellent, well made Cabernet which has the strength to carry on for years. More new world than old world unlike Dominus for example which could be Left Bank. Overly expensive at Rockpool.

Soft tannins, great mouth feel and finish. Yummy basket of black fruits and forest floor.

One of the few 9.7's I have ever given a wine. There is just something about Colgin, although I can definitely say I have not had one that is 17 years old! This is just about as good as it gets. At 17 years old, this one is thick and hedonistic out of the bottle. Are you KIDDING ME? Blackberry core, herbed gouda cheese in the background. Meaty. Entry is full bodied grilled meat and blackberry. Middle of cassis, herb, black fruit. Black pepper and grilled mushroom finish. Wow. A ride from one side to the other, full bodied and ready to dominate. I wouldn't say that this one is over the hill AT ALL. Seems like it's just approaching the top. Minimal decant time and this one was showing WELL.

Big fruits, well integrated, less structure than the Estate
