Comte Armand
Clos des Epeneaux Monopole Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Wowie i love Armand. While this could’ve used a little more age it was still brilliant. Just a shame we couldn’t drink it over a longer period of time to see how it evolved

Mar 19th, 2023Good now but seems like a lot more life ahead. Ripe red cherries, strawberries, maybe plums. Moderate plus acidity and more tannins than you’d expect from pinot. Some chalkiness and almost meaty notes. Vanilla is noticeable. Just better and better as it opens.

Jun 9th, 2022Packed tight with everything, like a genie in a bottle. Needs 5-10yra to unfurl. You can smell and taste the hot vintage! And the high alcohol. On the cusp of overripe, but pulled back just in time. The nose is powerful, with savoury meat, dark cherry, and mushroom. Palate opens with Sweet fruit, then plenty of acid and a touch of tannin to hold everything together. The wine benefitted massively from food. The acid and ripe red fruit a perfect counterpoint to beef cheeks with polenta. For my 52nd bday with R. +2-3pts in 10 yrs.
