Cono Sur
Bicicleta Merlot
Dark purple in color with a purplish rim.
On the nose, black currants, cherries, green vegetables, herbs, earth, wet leaves, vanilla, wood, spices, tobacco leaf, peppercorn and leather.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with plums, cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth, vegetables and peppercorn.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a simple Merlot from Chile. Earthy on the nose and fruity on the palate. Interesting enough, spicy and easy drinking. Not fully balanced, but maybe it will get there in a year.
Needs 30 minutes to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle.
I paired it with a burger and fries at a happy hour. Not too bad.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blueberries, black currants, cherries, oak, cloves, green vegetables, chocolates, vanilla, bell pepper, tobacco leaf, peppercorn, leather and earth.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, earth, vegetables, graphite, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Medium finish with soft tannins, bitter herbs and black pepper.
This Chilean Merlot is not bad for a weekday. Drinkable, not fully balanced and simple. A little hot at the back of the throat and bitter on the ending. Showing a soft, nice and spicy mouthfeel.
Needs a year or two in the bottle to remove some of the vegetable notes. I had the 2014 last year and it's very consistent. Better with food, like grilled steak.
