Copain
High Rock Ranch Yorkville Highlands Syrah
Quick highlight of the Copain Wines tasting at the storage facility recently. 6 wines were poured, 2 of them single vineyard. Since those two stuck out the most, I’ll just post those.
This was my favorite of the tasting. Cool climate Syrah. Extremely floral on the nose which for me is unique (haven’t had much cool climate Syrah). Almost elegant. Lavender, blackberries, and herbal components. Neither spicy nor jammy. Very well balanced. A great representation of the old world style they are going for. @Shawn R , this is the one I was talking about.

Red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry. So, you're thinking Pinot? Wrong! This is is cool weather Syrah at its best and only as Copain can make it. Great effort and another great Thanksgiving wine.

Feb 16th, 2015Really enjoyable Syrah. This is a crazy nose of herbs, black fruit, burgundian profile with a hint of grilled meat. The competition was tough in the perspective of it being enjoyed alongside a Cayuse Bionic Frog, SQN B20, a Long Shadows Sequel, and a Chave L'Hermitage but it held up to the competition IMO and was no less or more capable than any of them. Entry is dark yet very rounded. Middle with even a bit of cocoa nit dark and black. A little bit of tar. Finished with good acid and grip. This can go another 5 to 7 years easy, maybe even 10. Nice nice syrah. My thoughts on this wine have scored it as low as 92 and as high as 96. Really awesome QPR when considering what it was up against! Nice wine @Shay A !
